Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS), located in Malden, Massachusetts, was founded in 1998 and serves more than 1,750 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. At Mystic Valley, student success is built upon exceptional teachers, carefully selected curricula taught with fidelity, high academic expectations, and a traditional approach to instruction. Consistently ranked among the top public schools in Massachusetts, New England, and the nation, MVRCS has established a proven record of preparing students for success at the post-secondary level and beyond. Students in Grades K–12 attend school in dress code and participate in a 200-day academic year. The school day is also approximately 60 minutes longer than that of most traditional public schools. The English Teacher is responsible for implementing Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s English curriculum for students in Grades 7–12. Instruction is grounded in the Core Knowledge and Great Books programs, both in curriculum and methodology. At the high school level, teachers may also support the school’s rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) program through IB English coursework and instruction.

Responsibilities
  • Implement the documented English curriculum, including the Great Books literature program and, where applicable, International Baccalaureate coursework.
  • Teach five daily subject-area classes using Core Knowledge and IB instructional methodology.
  • Develop and deliver lessons aligned to clear learning objectives and rigorous academic standards.
  • Assess student progress regularly and complete progress reports and report cards as required.
  • Administer standardized testing as directed by the English Department Chair and Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate regularly with English department colleagues regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment, data analysis, and instructional practices.
  • Implement the school’s assertive discipline model with fidelity and consistency.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and participate in professional development activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the English Department Chair and/or Assistant Director.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and instructional materials effectively.
  • Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make sound instructional decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the broader school community.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Knowledge of English content standards, instructional practices, and applicable educational laws and procedures.
  • Ability to design and implement lessons aligned with school objectives and student needs.
  • Experience assessing student performance and interpreting academic data preferred.
  • Strong collaboration, leadership, and classroom management skills.
  • Successful completion of applicable MTEL examinations within one year of employment.

This position reports directly to the English Department Chair and is evaluated annually.
