Position Summary

Kinkaid Civil Construction is seeking an experienced Foreman – Underground Utilities to lead field crews performing underground utility installation on heavy civil construction projects throughout Utah. This position is responsible for planning daily work activities, supervising field personnel, coordinating equipment and materials, maintaining production schedules, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience installing underground wet utilities, including water, sewer, and storm drain systems, and is a proven leader who can motivate crews while maintaining Kinkaid's high standards for safety, quality, and productivity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise underground utility crews on heavy civil construction projects.
  • Plan, organize, and direct daily field operations to meet production goals and project schedules.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, utility profiles, specifications, and grade stakes.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents, Project Managers, Project Engineers, survey crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and utility representatives.
  • Oversee the installation of water, sewer, storm drain, force main, and related underground utility systems.
  • Ensure proper trenching, shoring, bedding, pipe installation, testing, backfilling, and restoration procedures are followed.
  • Verify utility installation meets project specifications, municipal standards, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, trucking, and subcontractor activities.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and excavation safety requirements.
  • Complete daily production reports, equipment logs, safety documentation, and employee time records.
  • Identify and resolve field issues while maintaining open communication with project leadership.
  • Train, mentor, and develop Lead Men, Equipment Operators, Laborers, and Pipelayers.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support successful project completion.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of underground utility construction experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience as a Foreman, Lead Man, or equivalent supervisory role.
  • Extensive experience installing water, sewer, storm drain, and related underground utility systems.
  • Strong understanding of trench safety, excavation methods, utility installation practices, and backfill procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility profiles, specifications, and grade stakes.
  • Experience coordinating crews, equipment, subcontractors, and daily production activities.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and safe excavation practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Requirements

  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Competent Person – Excavation certification.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Experience working on municipal, public infrastructure, and private development projects.
  • Experience with dewatering systems and deep excavations.
  • Experience using GPS, laser, and pipe laser equipment.
  • CDL Class A or B is preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
