Overview The City of Placentia is recruiting for the position of Public Works Inspector. 4/10 work schedule: Monday – Thursday, 7:15 a.m. – 6:15 p.m. The filing deadline is August 09, 2026. Our Public Works Department seeks a dedicated, hardworking individual to join our Inspection Division as a Public Works Inspector. The Public Works Inspector performs skilled and detailed inspections of engineering construction, maintenance, and public works projects; interprets plans and specifications to ensure compliance with contracts and work plans; prepares and recommends change orders and cost estimates; and performs other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities Inspect a variety of public works construction and maintenance projects, such as sidewalks, concrete structures, driveways, sewer mains, curbs and gutters, retaining walls, earthwork, street excavation and patchwork, and storm drains. Ensure that construction and materials comply with contract standards and specifications, state laws, local ordinances, and proper construction practices. Review plans, specifications, and sites for construction projects, and prepare cost estimates and bid specifications. Locate and check installation of sewer connections and layout of new sewer lines; monitor air tests and conduct grading inspections. Coordinate and inspect traffic signal installations and contractor services. Meet and confer with representatives of utility companies, contractors, engineers, and other public agencies regarding construction plans and specifications. Issue encroachment, transportation, and grading permits and inspect progress on private development and public works projects. Update and draft city maps on a variety of different scales; update sewer and storm drain locations for new developments, issue new addresses for new developments. Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the City. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by college-level course work in construction and/or engineering; and three years of construction inspection experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licenses and Certifications Valid, current driver’s license. Certifications and testing: None required.
