Summary This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, National Center for Environmental Health, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The announcement will close at 11:59 PM on the day that 150 applications have been received or the closing date, whichever comes first. Key Responsibilities Perform surveillance and epidemiologic analyses to support public health programs and initiatives. Analyze complex survey data using statistical software (e.g., SAS, SUDAAN, R, or equivalent tools). Design statistical analyses and select appropriate statistical methods for data evaluation. Develop and communicate statistical findings through scientific reports, data visualizations, and other mediums. Document analyses and findings in a clear, concise manner for stakeholders. Basic Qualifications Degree with at least 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, with at least 6 semester hours in statistics) and an additional 9 semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, engineering, or social sciences (including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, anthropology, sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.). Alternative: Combination of education and experience that includes the courses above plus relevant professional statistical experience. Minimum Qualifications One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS‑12 grade level in performing surveillance and epidemiologic analyses. Experience in conducting surveillance and epidemiologic analyses to support public health programs and initiatives. Experience analyzing complex survey data using statistical software (SAS, SUDAAN, R, or equivalent). Experience designing statistical analyses and selecting appropriate methods for data evaluation. Ability to develop scientific products, reports, and data visualizations that communicate findings. Additional Experience and Documentation Documented experience in statistical methods such as sampling, collection, computation, and analysis of data. Experience applying statistical techniques including measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. Must provide clear and specific descriptions of duties performed, exact employment dates, and hours worked per week if part‑time. Documentation such as signed memorandum, SF‑50, or SF‑52 may be required to substantiate experience beyond official position duties. Compliance with OPM Policies In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description.
